Peter Gregory Obi was born on July 19, 1961, in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. He attended Christ the King College, Onitsha, where he completed his secondary school education. He was admitted to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1980 and graduated with a B.A. (Hons) in Philosophy in 1984.

After graduating from university, Obi worked as a banker for several years. He held senior positions at Fidelity Bank, Guardian Express Bank, and Next International Nigeria Ltd. In 2003, he was elected governor of Anambra State on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Obi served as governor of Anambra State for three terms, from 2006 to 2014. During his tenure, he implemented a number of reforms that helped to improve the state’s economy and infrastructure. He also worked to reduce corruption and improve governance.
